John Nelson is a partner in the firm’s litigation group. He has over 16 years of experience handling a broad range of complex trial and appellate litigation in state and federal courts. John has represented clients in lawsuits and arbitrations involving complex contract disputes, professional malpractice, real-estate transactions, partnership and business disputes, and cases involving allegations of fraud, breach of fiduciary duty, and abusive litigation. He also handles complex tort cases involving catastrophic injuries and wrongful death and has obtained successful results for defendants, as well as multimillion recoveries for plaintiffs.
In the Profession
John lectures on legal writing and litigation and has served as an adjunct professor at Emory University School of Law teaching legal writing and appellate litigation. He also writes and lectures on a variety of litigation topics, including the following articles and seminars:

John volunteers as an oral-argument and brief-writing judge for national and local moot-court competitions and mock-trial teams. He is involved with Project Open Hand, CHRIS Kids (which helps abused and homeless children and their families), and the Holiday Toy Party for underprivileged children.
He has been named a “Georgia Rising Star,” representing the top 5% of Georgia lawyers, for 4 years.
Representative Cases
Connolly v. St. Simons Waterfront LLC
Won summary judgment for a condominium developer against buyers who were alleging breach of contract and violations of the Georgia Condominium Act, the Fair Business Practices Act, and the Georgia Statute of Frauds in the sale of $1 million condominium units.
Asuamah v. Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage
Won summary judgment for a real-estate brokerage firm against a homebuyer seeking over $1 million for alleged fraudulent concealment of construction defects and mold contamination.
Meshkanian v. Palmetto Industrial Properties LLC
Won summary judgment and recouped $140,000 in attorney fees for a client sued by a real-estate investor for alleged fraud, breach of a partnership agreement, and breach of fiduciary duty arising out of a $19 million real-estate transaction.

Obtained a settlement of $4 million for a patient injured by medical negligence during a laser surgery.
Confidential case
Worked with a team to obtain a settlement of $24 million (the full amount of outstanding debt) for a lender against defaulting borrowers using the Fraudulent Transfer Act.

Successfully settled a real-estate brokerage firm’s liability for $250,000 in a case where 10 buyers were seeking over $6 million in damages for alleged violations of the Georgia Land Sales Act, the Interstate Land Sales Full Disclosure Act, and the Georgia Racketeering Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act.
